Empowering the Jabi Community

The Jabi community in the Federal Capital Territory recently witnessed a wave of transformation and renewed optimism as a two-week intensive empowerment campaign came to an end. Designed to combat poverty and equip residents with practical, income-generating skills, the program attracted enthusiastic participation from people of all ages, including children as young as four, five, and seven.

Over the course of the 14-day initiative, participants were trained in essential vocational skills such as sewing, tailoring, hair braiding, soap making, and cake baking. The ability of even the youngest learners to quickly grasp and apply these skills astonished many and added a joyful, inspiring touch to the entire experience. More than just a training program, the initiative became a symbol of what communities can achieve when given the right tools and opportunities.

Dr. Regina Duru Advocates for Broader Empowerment Initiatives

At the helm of the program was Dr. Regina Duru, a passionate advocate for community development and the coordinator of the campaign. She expressed deep satisfaction with the level of commitment displayed by participants, emphasizing that the eagerness to learn and the seriousness with which the training was received were both encouraging and inspiring.

Dr. Duru highlighted the far-reaching benefits of such empowerment efforts, noting that they can significantly reduce the number of street children, create employment opportunities, and help lower crime rates. According to her, initiatives like this are crucial for fostering economic self-reliance and should be adopted more widely, both by government bodies and private organizations.

She concluded by reaffirming her belief that sustainable community empowerment is a key pathway to building a stronger, more prosperous Nigeria, where every citizen has the chance to thrive..
